Winter Comes:
Oregon's Nordic Ski History
August, 2017
Winter Comes: Oregon's Nordic Ski History opened March 11, 2016 at the Deschutes Historical Museum to a large crowd of 200 guests including many relatives who were featured in the exhibit. ONSF was a large financial contributor to Winter Comes. The exhibit was on display in two galleries. The first gallery, affectionately called "Old World," featured paintings, photos, skis and videos from the oldest origins of skiing in Europe and Asia to the development of skiing as a sport in 19th century Norway. The second gallery featured cross country skiing and ski jumping from the last 90 years in Oregon.
After a 10 month run, the exhibit moved to Klamath County Museum in Klamath Falls (February - July, 2017) and is expected to open at Nordic Northwest, formerly known as Scandinavian Heritage Foundation in Beaverton from September - December, 2017. The exhibit makes one more stop at the Mt. Hood Cultural Center and Museum in Government Camp from January - March of 2018 before returning home to the Deschutes Historical Museum as a permanent exhibit.
